1. Can I pay my fine online or by telephone?

No, at this time we are not set up for such service.

2. How do I get a court date for my parking ticket?

There are 3 ways to obtain a court date for your parking ticket.

At the Greenfield Police Department, 24 hours per day.

At the Greenfield Municipal Court, Monday-Friday 8am to 5 pm.

Mail a letter to the Municipal Court
5300 W Layton Avenue
Greenfield, WI 53220

with the following information:
Full Name
Current address
Current telephone number
Driver’s license number
Date parking ticket was issued
The parking ticket number (located by PK in right-hand corner of ticket)
Preference for either an 8:30 am or 5:30 pm court session

Once this information is received, we will send a letter with your assigned court date.

A court date will not be assigned by telephone.

3. How do I get to Greenfield Municipal Court?

Directions:
From I-94: Take Highway 45 South to I-894 East to the South 60th Street exit. Go South (right). To first light, West Layton Avenue and go East (left). The Municipal Court is located on the north side.

From I-43: Take I-43 South to I-894 West to South 60th Street exit. Go South (left). To first light, West Layton Avenue and go East (left). The Municipal Court is located on the north side.

4. How do I make a plea?

If your ticket does not indicate, "Must Appear", you have the following options:

If you do not wish to contest the matter, you may pay your forfeiture by the scheduled Court date. Please enclose a copy of your citation. The Court will enter a plea of no contest with a finding of guilty - no appearance is necessary.

You may enter your plea in Court on the Court date indicated on the citation. If a juvenile (16 and under with a non-traffic offense), wants to appear at his/her Court date they must be accompanied by a parent and will be seen by the Judge in closed chambers.

You may enter a not guilty plea prior to your Court date in writing by mail or in person at the Court office. If a not guilty plea is entered the matter will be scheduled for a pretrial conference with the City Attorney.

5. I have received a Restitution Notice, what is it?

Restitution is ordered by the Police Department. Restitution is the cost of damages the victim claimed occurred during the violation. This restitution notice is created by the arresting police officer and sent to you.

If restitution is made to the victim make sure you get proof. You can bring that proof on your court date and the Judge will review your court case. With proof of restitution, the Judge may consider a reducing the fine.

6. I missed my court date; can I get another court date?

Yes. You will have to do a motion to reopen the case. A reopening filing fee will be required based on the following:
Conviction date is less than 6 months - $25 filing fee
Conviction date is more than 6 months - $50 filing fee

7. I received an expired registration/non-registration ticket and I now have my vehicle registered properly. Can I bring my registration information to court?

Yes. You have 2 options for taking care of this type of citation:

Bring your registration slip and a $35 fee to the Municipal Court office Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. prior to your court date and the ticket will be dismissed.

Bring your registration slip to court on your assigned court date and present to the Judge.

8. If my juvenile son/daughter receives a ticket, do I need to attend?

Yes. Both parent/guardian and the juvenile must attend.

9. Is a court appearance mandatory?

Visa & MasterCard are accepted. If writing a check, the person signing must be present with valid identification.

You can mail a check or money order to the Greenfield Police Department.

Do not mail cash.

11. Why did I get a parking ticket in front of my house overnight?

The City of Greenfield’s Ordinance 8.12 (2) – Overnight Street Parking is as follows:

Overnight parking on any street or alley within the City shall be permitted year-round, with the exception of declared snow emergencies or on those streets where other parking restrictions or ordinances prevent or prohibit such parking. Motor vehicles parked overnight shall be parked only on the even-numbered side of the street on those nights bearing an even calendar date before midnight and on the odd-numbered side of the street on those nights bearing an odd calendar date before midnight. Enforcement of the provisions in this subsection will be between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. (Am. #2066)

12. Will I be assigned a court appointed attorney?

No. If you desire an attorney to represent you, you will need to hire an attorney.

The City Attorney is available to review your case. If you want to see the City Attorney, you will need to sign up at the Police Department window on your scheduled court date and time. The City Attorney takes cases on a first come, first serve basis. Sign up generally starts a half hour before the court time. The City Attorney will not see persons on dates other than your scheduled court date.

13. How can I reschedule my court date and time?

Only 1 rescheduling is allowed.
You can reschedule your court date:

In person at the Greenfield Municipal Court
By fax - call the Municipal Court for details.
By email

Court dates will not be rescheduled by telephone.

14. How can I get more time to pay my fine?

If you have previously been to court and found guilty and need more time to pay your fine, then you can do the following:

Appear on the due date that is listed on your paperwork and speak with the Judge, or

Before your due date that is listed on your paperwork you can appear in the Municipal Court office for a one time 60 day extension of payment.

15. How do I register my vehicle and obtain or renew my driver's license?

The nearest Division of Motor Vehicles station from the Greenfield Municipal Court is located at: 5500 W Grange Avenue

When leaving the Greenfield Municipal Court parking lot go East (left) onto West Layton Avenue to the 2nd traffic light, West Loomis Road, turn right. Go to the 2nd traffic light, West Grange Avenue, turn left and you will see the DMV on the left-hand side. Wisconsin DMV

16. What will happen if I do not attend court with my juvenile son/daughter?

The Judge will order the parent to be subpoenaed to court. If the parent does not appear when subpoenaed, the Judge has the authority to issue a Contempt of Court citation to the parent/guardian.
