1.
How is the sewer bill calculated?
The wastewater of the city is collected and treated by MMSD (Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District). There are four components on the utility bill. Two of these components are billed on behalf of MMSD. 1) The MMSD connection charge. 2) The MMSD volumetric charge is based on water usage. 3) The local sewer charge covers operation and maintenance costs. 4) The storm water fee is mandated by the state to manage storm water quantity and quality on all impervious surfaces. The latest rate amounts are printed on the back of the bills as well as on our website. Detailed information can also be found on under Municipal Codes Chapter 14: Municipal Utilities and Chapter 33: Storm Water Utility.
2.
How often will I receive the sewer bill?
Sewer service bills are billed quarterly to all residential and commercial properties. Bills are mailed out sometime in February, May, August and late October. The due dates are at least 22 days after the billing date
3.
Does this bill include the water billing?
No, you will receive a separate quarterly bill from Milwaukee Water Works for the water bill. The City is not responsible for any meter readings.
4.
Who do I contact if I have any questions
Sewer bills are generated by the Treasurer’s office at City Hall. You can contact us by phone at 414-329-5259 or send an email to us at sewerbilling@greenfieldwi.us
5.
Where do I pay my sewer bill?
You may pay your sewer bill in person at the Treasurer’s Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday at City Hall, 7325 W Forest Home Ave. After hours your payment can be placed into the drop box located on the south side of the building. You may also mail your bill to: City of Greenfield, P.O. Box 20739, Greenfield, WI 53220. Make checks payable to "The City of Greenfield."
6.
Can I have my sewer bill payments automatically withdrawn from my checking account? Is there a fee?
Yes. There is no fee to have payments automatically withdrawn from your checking or savings account on the due date. You simply fill out our form, attach a voided check, and drop it off or mail it to the Finance Department at City Hall. The form ‘Authorization for Utility Autopay’ can be mailed to you or downloaded from the City website. A link to the PDF form can be found by typing ‘automatic payment” in the search box on the City website homepage.
7.
Will I still get a bill if I am on the automatic payment plan?
Yes, you have the choice to receive the bill in the mail or by email. There is a box to check on the form if you wish to receive both an email and physical bill. The email bill is sent in a PDF form. The wording “Auto Acct: Do Not Pay” will appear on this bill.
8.
Can I pay with a credit card, debit card or e-check?
Yes, all three methods can be used at our registers or through our Online Payment Center administered by Point and Pay. To use this service, a transaction fee will be assessed at the time of payment. For debit or credit card payments, the transaction fee is 2.5% with a minimum of $2.00. E-checks will have a flat fee of $1.50 up to $10,000. Over $10,000, the flat fee is $10.00. To access this service from the homepage on our website, type “sewer” in the search box. Click on the option for online sewer payments and follow the prompts. 9.
Can I receive an email bill instead of getting one in the mail?
Yes, contact us to request the bill be sent to your email address. Email us at sewerbilling@greenfieldwi.us from the email address you wish to use.
10.
I am moving/selling my house, how do I close out my account?
Unlike water, there is no final read or a shut off request for sewer, as it is a property user fee. If your name was on the bill or you are enrolled on the automatic payment plan, you may want to call our office at (414) 329-5259 to cancel it. In a traditional closing, the title company will prorate using the latest quarter’s bill amount and give that credit amount to the buyer. You may want to check the credit column of your closing documents.
11.
How do I establish service or change the name on an account?
If it is a newly constructed home, service will be established once you are granted an occupancy permit and Milwaukee Water has given us the meter information. If you bought an existing home, you may want to call our office at (414) 329-5259 to update owner information. If an owner’s name was not requested, the bills get mailed to occupant. If you received your bill and want to change mailing information, make note of it on the back of your bill when you send in payment.
12.
Where/how can I get a copy of current and previous sewer bills?
PDF copies of sewer bills can be viewed or downloaded at the website http://accessmygov.com. The sewer account number needs to be provided to gain access to records. Sewer bills can be emailed or faxed to you upon request by calling the Treasurer's Office at 414-329-5259. However, due to the recent passing of WI Act 25, information will only be released to the customer of the utility unless authorization has been given in writing to supply information to a third party.
13.
Can both a landlord and their tenant receive the bill?
Yes, a bill can be mailed to both a landlord as well as the tenant. This request can be done by notifying our department.
14.
Are there any penalties applied if payments are not met by the date?
Yes, there is a late fee of 4.5% per quarter on an unpaid balance. Any delinquent balance remaining on the account after the due date in November will be transferred over to the homeowner’s tax bill, with an additional 10% penalty.
