LICENSING INFORMATION AND APPLICATIONS
Instructions for creating an online BS&A account
**Please note when paying for your license online with a credit card, there will be a transaction fee of 2.5% with a minimum of $2.00 added to your payment.** If you want to avoid the fee, you can mail a check to:

Alcohol Beverage License
Before an application for an Alcohol Beverage License is filed in the City Clerk’s office, applicants must begin the approval process by completing the process below. NOTE: This is not for individuals seeking a Operator's (Bartender) License, please click that tab on the left.
1. Environmental Health Specialist, at (414) 302-8600, for review by the Southwest Suburban Health Department
2. The Wisconsin Department of Revenue at (414) 227-4000 to obtain a Wisconsin Seller’s Permit. This can also be obtained at the Wisconsin State Office Building, 819 N. 6th St., Room 408, in Milwaukee.
3. The Internal Revenue Service to obtain a Federal Employer Identification number.
The Department of Neighborhood Services (414) 329-5330 is responsible for issuing various permits including:
- Building Permits
- Plumbing or Electrical Permits
If alcohol has not previously been sold or served at a proposed location, an application may not be submitted to the City Clerk’s office until after the applicant has gone before the Plan Commission. Contact the City Planner, at 414-329-5341 for these requirements.
The license year runs from July 1 through June 30.

Class "A" Beer License - $100
For sale of beer in original packages or containers for off-premises consumption only.
"Class A" Liquor License - $500
For sale of intoxicating liquor in original packages or containers for off-premises consumption only.
Class "B" Beer License - $100
For sale of beer for on-premises or off-premises consumption.
"Class B" Liquor License - $500
For sale of intoxicating liquor by the glass for on-premises consumption, and in original packages or container to be consumed off-premises.
"Class C" Wine License - $100
For sale of wine by the glass or in an opened original container for consumption on the premises where sold.
Amusement Distributor License and/or Tags
The Amusement License/Tag year runs from August 1 through July 31.
Applications for an Amusement Device should be submitted by companies leasing amusement devices to businesses in the City of Greenfield. In addition, there is a fee required for a tag for each machine.
If a Greenfield business owns the amusement device(s), the business owner should apply for a tag for each machine owned.

Bill Posting & Distribution of Handbills
Submit the application to the City Clerk's Office with a copy of the Driver's License or Photo I.D. of the applicant and all handbill distributors listed on the license.

- For One Day: $10
- For One Week to One Year: $25
- Background Check Fee: $10 (Per Person)
Cigarette License
This license year runs from July 1 through June 30.

Fee
Cigarette, Tobacco and/or Vaping Device Retail License: $100
Direct Seller License
Submit the application to the City Clerk’s Office with a copy of the Driver’s License of the applicant and all sellers listed on the license.
If the sellers qualify as a Traveling Sales Crew (PDF) additional regulations may apply.
Certain businesses are required to have a Wisconsin Seller’s Permit. You can learn more on the State of Wisconsin Revenue website.

Dry Cleaning & Washing Machine License
This license year runs from July 1 through June 30.

Operator’s (Bartender) License
This license year runs from July 1 through June 30.
- Original Operator’s and/or Provisional License Application & Instructions - Requires approval of the Greenfield Common Council.
- Renewal Operator’s License Application & Instructions- This is for previous year licensees only and requires the approval of the Greenfield Common Council.
- Temporary Operator’s License Application - There are only two licenses allowed per year. A Temporary Operator’s license is issued to an individual who will donate his/her services to sell/serve at a licensed temporary event.
- Department of Revenue-Approved List of Responsible Beverage Server Training Courses - New applicants for an Operator’s License must complete a Responsible Beverage Server Training Course, or provide a certified copy of a valid Operator’s License from another municipality (PDF) held in the past two years.

- Background Check Fee: $10 - Background Checks are required on all Operator’s License applications.

Parade License
A Parade License is required for any parade, march, ceremony, show, exhibition, pageant, motorcade, or procession of any kind, or any similar display in or upon any street, sidewalk, or other public place in the City.
Secondhand Article/Jewelry Dealer License
This license year runs from July 1 to June 30.

Applicants should first contact the Greenfield Police Department to determine if a license is required.

Temporary Class B Beer and/or Wine License
- Temporary Class B License Application
- Individual Questionnaire (AB-100)
- Alcohol Beverage Appointment of Agent (AB-101)
The Individual Questionnaire (AB-100) is needed for each officer, director and agent listed on the application. The Alcohol Beverage Appointment of Agent (AB-101) is needed if the applicant is a corporation.
Applicants planning an outdoor event should first contact the Community Development Department at (414) 329-5341 to determine if an Outdoor Special Event Permit is required.
This license may be granted and issued only to:
- Bona fide clubs
- State, county, or local fair associations or agricultural societies.
- Church, lodge, or society that has been in existence for at least 6 months prior to the date of application.
- Posts of veterans organizations.
- Chambers of Commerce or similar civic or trade organizations organized under ch. 181, Wis Stats.
Not more than 2 wine licenses may be issued to a qualifying applicant during a 12-month period.
There must be at least one individual who holds a Greenfield Operator’s License on the premises at the event per Wis. Statute. Temporary Licenses are available: (not more than 2 temporary licenses may be issued per person in a 12 month period)
