The Community Service Officers (CSO) program is designed to enhance service delivery by using nonsworn personnel to handle minor calls for service. Description

Applications are being accepted for this paid, part‐time, non‐sworn opportunity ($18.00/hour). The CSO position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience while pursuing your education. The ultimate goal of the CSO program is to prepare students for a career in law enforcement.

Some of the duties include:

  • Assistance at crash and crime scenes
  • Parking enforcement
  • Assisting motorists
  • Non‐emergency calls for service
  • Other general tasks as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma and valid driver’s license
  • Currently enrollment in a program of study at an accredited technical school, college, or university with an emphasis in police science, criminal justice, criminology or law enforcement related study
  • Ability to work flexible hours (with accommodations for attending school)
  • Pass a background investigation

Part-Time Students

CSOs are criminal justice students who work part-time for the police department. CSO’s patrol the city providing non-emergent services such as:

  • Disabled vehicles
  • Parking enforcement
  • Residence and business checks
  • Traffic control
  • Various administrative support functions
  • Vehicle lock-out assistance
