Greenfield has been recognized annually as a Tree City USA since 1994. Tree City USA is a community improvement program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, USDA Forest Service, U.S. Conference of Mayors and National League of Cities. Tree City USA is designed to recognize communities that effectively manage their urban forest and meet the four Tree City USA standards. Maintaining this national status demonstrates that the city and its residents recognize that urban trees are closely linked to quality of life and are actively working to preserve and enhance the urban forest.
The Tree City USA Growth Award is presented by the Arbor Day Foundation to participating Tree City USA communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the calendar year. The City of Greenfield is proud to hold the longest active Growth Award in the state! Greenfield has been receiving Growth Awards annually since 1994.
In 2023, Greenfield was officially recognized as a Tree City of the World by the Arbor Day Foundation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Greenfield is proud to be a part of this international effort committed to ensuring that urban forests and trees are properly maintained, sustainably managed and duly celebrated for decades to come.
